Collier Family Letter
25 Jun 1848

Macon GA  Sunday evening 2 oclock June 25, 1848

Dear Elizabeth,

We reached this place on Wednesday evening about sunset. I should have written sooner but learned you would receive a letter as soon, written this evening, as the mail had closed some 3 hours before my arrival.

I therefore concluded to go to cousin's Jesse's and write after my return. I found him and family all well.

My own health has not improved any since I left home, the weather has been so warm I took off my flannel and have taken cold, but think I shall keep it off. I shall leave for the Indian Springs tomorrow morning at 6 oclock and shall write once a week or oftener. I feel very anxious to see you all, and sometimes almost have the Blues, but then I look at your picture (which I do often) and see you smiling I feel considerably cheered. I hope God will watch over and protect you all, and that I may be allowed to return in better health and find all well.

I wish you to hand Mr. Gaulden the II notes on Wm. & Warren Sutton (you will find them in the papers I handed you last) and request him to enclose them in a letter to Isaac E. Bower, Esqr., Cuthbert GA.  I have requested Mr. Bower to sue upon them.

I hope Bob has finished planting potatoe vines & hauled plenty of wood, if he has not tell him to do so.

I want some of you to write once a week, at least, and let me know how you are getting along. I should like to hear from the exhibition & examination as soon as convenient.

Please kiss Eliza Jane for me, for I am almost crazy to do so everytime I see her face.

Hoping these lines may reach you save & find all well.

I remain your affectionate Husband,
James G. Collier
