Robert YANCEY was the eldest son of Alex and Permillia YANCEY of Chattooga Co. Ga. He
left for Texas in the early 1900,s with sister Daisy YANCEY born around 1870. the rode the
alabama, ga, rail road from Chattooga to Keener, Al. then took the southern railway to
Texas. I live in Gadsden. My home is six or seven miles from the old abandoned keener gap
station. All info appreciated. There is a faimily of YANCEYs living in Duck Springs which
is closer to Keener Gap than I am, they spell the name YANCY. but there are of the same
family as I. My great grand father used to come from Ga, and visit my grand father in
Hokes Bluff, Al. He always asked to be carried to visit his cousins in Duck Springs. Sorry
I wasn't as interested in my teen years as I am now and did not ask enough questions.
I found the will of Dabner YANCEY and am sure he is my gg grandfather. My grandmother
was Elizabeth Loucas YANCEY b. 14 July 1870, m. James Henry BRYANT 18 Jan 1885 in Queen
City, Tx. Elizabeth's father was Lawrence Mauldin YANCEY b. 2 Mar 1838 m. Sallie Eveline
MCGINNIS. Lawrence's father was Dabner YANCEY b. 1786 m. Mary B. LOUCOUS and died 17 Oct
1869. Our information shows his birth and death to be in Cherokee Co. Ga.

I am interested in the Yancey family tree. I am a Yancey by marriage. My father -in-law
was adopted around 1930, into the family by William T and Anna (TEMPLE) YANCEY, in
Versaille KY, from the Louisville Christian Church. My father-in-law James R. (Jackson)
YANCEY, was born around 1920, in Illinios. He also had 2 sisters before adoption. Their
names are Rose and Thelma JACKSON. I was wandering if they too were adopted, perhaps by
the YANCEY's. He never kept in contact with his adoptive family and doesn't really speak
of his childhood. James and his wife Mary Francis (BRISTOW) Yancey gave birth to 4
children, James B., Mary L., Sandra L. and John D. John D. YANCEY is my husband. I am
curious to know about the YANCEY's. This is all i know on his family, the rest is blank!
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!
Am descendant of Robery YANCEY and Philadelphia JONES. Was checking it out to see if
you've found any answer to the "where did the Yanceys come from" .... wonder if
we ever will.......my YANCEY info came from Elton LACEY (a cousin on my dad's side). when
I came across the name "YANCEY", I wrote him and asked if my Yancey was a
relative of the ones he had mentioned on his mother's side of the family - needless to say
it was, so we are cousins on both our dads' side (LACEY) as well as on both our mothers'
side......your cuz (too), Dorothy
My name is Alta Laree YANCEY, great-great granddaughter of William Lowndes YANCEY.
During my first marriage, to Lynn F. REAFSNYDER, I was known by the REAFSNYDER surname.
Since then, through two other marriages, I have retained the surname YANCEY. I have
decided that I should always be known by the name with which I was born. My father had no
sons, and I have no children, so this practice has become even more important to me.
I found the Yancey site on the web through a search on the name 'YANNEY'. I am looking
for connections to a 'Nellie YANNEY'. She was listed as the informant and daughter on the
'Baptism of the Dead' records for Amelia WILLIAMSON, as the grand-daughter on the record
for Jacob WILLIAMSON, and as the grand daughter on the record for Loisa BALL. I've already
established that Loisa and Jacob were husband and wife and that they had a daughter named
Amelia (b 1840). What I'm wondering is does anyone have a connection in the YANNEY or
YANCEY lines to Nellie?. Any leads are much appreciated.
I am the oldest grandchild of Mary Lou YANCEY and Donald Burton GILLIES. My father is
Donald B GILLIES Jr., still living, born Jul 26, 1919. I am the oldest of 7 girls born to
Donald B GILLIES, Jr. and Jacqueline Rose SHOCKLEY GATELY. Mary Lou and Donald Burton
GILLIES met in Mexico, and their story is a very interesting one. Mary Lou YANCEY is the
daughter of Benjamin C. YANCEY, brother of Wm Lowndes YANCEY.
My dad's name is Jimmie Wayne YANCEY. We are both visiting your site during our
Thanksgiving Holiday Vacation. We were very interested to find that there is a site
dedicated solely to the YANCEY name. My dad's dad, John D. YANCEY, once told him the
YANCEY name was "Black Dutch." John D. Yancey's father was named Charles YANCEY.
?). We aren't sure what that means, but if it sheds any light on things, we would be
thrilled. Charles YANCEY came to Texas from Missouri. Charles Yancey was married to Alice
FISSEL (sp??)
I am looking to trace my husbands family - we are YANCY and his father was YANCEY. This
is a african american family which is very difficult to trace. My husbands father was born
in the south and migrated to Chicago. We have very little information beyond his mother
and fathers name as they are both deceased and my husband and his brothers are the only
living relatives. I guess I would start trying to tract with my husbands fathers birth
certificate and then go after his father.
