My mother was a YANCEY. In fact, she almost named me YANCEY instead of Nancy! I've always been intriqued by just the sound of that name. Mother (75 years young) says the YANCEY's were out of Virginia. Owned a few slaves and some land. Beyond that, she has the Bible to refer to for names. I live in Kansas but spent my first fifity years in Cincinnati by way of Somerset (nearby), Kentucky. I will ask her for names from her Bible to contribute to your search.

FAULKNER, TUDOR, YANCEY posted by Caroline Thompson on Saturday, January 10, 1998

My mom is a YANCEY. My grandfather is Robert YANCEY (deceased) who's grandparents were Rosa FAULKNER and William TUDOR. I don't know alot about geneology and have a limited amount of history. I just thought it would be interesting to find distant relatives. Last summer we had a family reunion for my grandmother (a Yancey) with a bunch of cousins from Va., Wa., Al., and all over. Thanks for any info.

I was born in Philadelphia, moved to Va. & raised by grandparents ( Barbara & Charles YANCEY). My grandparents are deceased but we own a lot of land and a homeplace in Mineral, Va. I always considered my last name to be unique. I have family still on the homeplace. My grandparents children. My great grandfather name was Matt YANCEY. There is also a place called Yanceyville. Just wondering about my roots and thought this could be another lead.
